I’ve long been fascinated by early portrait photography, from a time when people were less aware of the camera and less concerned with posing or managing their image. There was a natural presence, an unguarded sincerity.

The girls in these portraits are introspective and self-contained. Protective yet open. Melancholic yet strong. They carry a quiet dignity, a sense of inwardness rather than display.

Each work is built in layers, composed from small photographic fragments. In that sense, I paint with photography, shaping the image piece by piece until it feels whole.

This series reflects a longing for goodness, for grace, and a certain understated Elegance.

In a world that often feels harsh and exposed, I am drawn to images of young women who hold their own dignity.
