BLACK MADONNA
A series of contemporary Black Madonnas, portraying Black femininity through stillness, strength and inner light. Inspired by the visual language of religious portraiture, each work is carefully constructed through layered photographic elements, resulting in an almost three-dimensional presence.
African references
A series initially inspired by classical African sculpture, first developed in 2011. Over time, the works evolved into a broader exploration and celebration of the beauty, presence and strength of Black femininity, continuing through to 2025.
